Dr Kin Yee Shiu has been a Consultant Nephrologist and Acute Physician at the Royal Free since 2014. She is Clinical Lead for Chronic Kidney Disease and Renal Outpatients, and honorary senior lecturer (Department of Renal Medicine, UCL).

She graduated with a First Class degree from Cambridge, before completing her medical training at University College London in 1997.

As a general nephrologist, Dr Shiu has a wide breadth of experience in looking after patients with all aspects of kidney disease, including chronic kidney disease, renal diagnostics, acute kidney injury, dialysis and transplantation. Dr Shiu participates regularly in the renal on-call rota, including acute transplantation, and the acute medical rota as an acute medical physician at the Royal Free. She is therefore well-placed to manage patients with nephrological and/or medical conditions, including those with acute or complex needs.

Her research background is in renal transplantation: her PhD was in Transplant Immunology (King’s College London) and she continues to be active in clinical research in the field of transplantation, with expertise in managing renal patients both pre- and post-transplant.

Other areas of interest include championing quality improvement and staff education, working locally and regionally to improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of patient care.
