Mr Colin Forman

BA(HONS), MBBS, MA

Consultant Transplant Surgeon

Mr Colin Forman is a Consultant Transplant Surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital. He qualified from UCL medical school, London in 2000 having completed preclinical training at Cambridge University.

Mr Forman’s post graduate training took in a spell as a junior doctor in Birmingham, followed by two years in the liver and kidney transplant unit in Brisbane, Australia and then higher surgical training across three teaching hospitals in London.

His interests are in conditions affecting the kidney.

Mr Forman is acknowledged as an expert in dialysis access surgery, such as fistulae, grafts or peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheters, and am often invited overseas to lecture on the subject.  He tends to see patients privately who are having trouble with their dialysis access, or who just want the reassurance of having the best chance of a successful procedure.  Mr Forman can offer techniques such as microsurgery, angioplasty or combined endovascular surgery, which are rarely offered elsewhere.

His other subspecialty interest is in the surgical treatment of conditions affecting the blood vessels of the kidneys, such as narrowing or swelling (aneurysms), including in children.  These rare conditions can be challenging to treat, and he is one of very few surgeons who take on this type of work with excellent results.  Mr Forman’s patients travel from all over the UK, the Middle East and Europe for treatment.

His main speciality is kidney transplantation, where he can draw on previous experience repairing blood vessels to successfully transplant and re-transplant patients, even in the most challenging conditions.
