Abdominal surgical sarcoma service

Abdominal sarcomas include a wide and varied group of tumours including:

  • Retroperitoneal sarcomas
  • Gastrointestinal stromal tumours which may arise anywhere in the bowel
  • Other intra-abdominal and pelvic soft tissue sarcomas whether primary or secondary

All cases referred to the London sarcoma service are discussed in a dedicated weekly MDT consisting of sarcoma oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and surgeons. Cases requiring surgical intervention are then transferred to the Royal Free Hospital for resection.

The full spectrum of open and laparoscopic techniques are provided at the Royal Free Hospital in one of the largest and most advanced theatre suites in the UK.
