The surgical abdominal sarcoma team
The Abdominal Sarcoma Team at the Royal Free Hospital has a particular expertise in the management of advanced sarcomas that may need multivisceral (removal of involved organs), resection and may even require in some instances the reconstruction of major blood vessels.
To date, in the last 10 years the unit is proud to have a 0% mortality rate for the resection of abdominal sarcomas despite dealing with some of the most complex cases.
The team consists of all the relevant subspecialists including vascular, urological, orthopaedic and plastic surgeons as required. The unit is affiliated with the bone tumour unit at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and performs joint cases with their sarcoma team.
The surgical abdominal sarcoma team is led by Professor Massimo Malago and Mr Arjun Shankar.
