Mr Daren Hanumunthadu is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. He is a currently a Consultant ophthalmologist at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also responsible for the postgraduate education for ophthalmologists in-training. He has written numerous publications in retinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and central serous retinopathy.
He specialises in a medical retina, inflammatory eye disease, cataract surgery and general ophthalmology.

Nephrology update for Primary care by Dr Rhys Evans

About this event
Dr. Evans studied medicine at Cambridge University and University College London Medical School, qualifying in 2007. He undertook general medical training in London and Melbourne, Australia prior to undergoing specialty training in Nephrology within the North Thames training scheme. He was awarded a fellowship to undertake sub-speciality training in transplantation at the University of British Columbia, Canada, which he completed in 2021.
He currently works as a consultant transplant nephrologist and honorary associate professor at the Royal Free Hospital. His practice encompasses all aspects of general nephrology including the investigation of acute and chronic kidney disease in addition to the management of patients on dialysis. He has sub-speciality expertise in transplantation; this includes donor and recipient assessment as well as all aspects of post transplant care. He is deputy lead of the UCL Centre for Transplantation and is principal investigator on a number of clinical trials. Projects include cardiac screening in transplant recipients, the use of novel biomarkers to assess transplant function, advanced molecular techniques for the analysis of transplant biopsies, and the use of cell therapy as an immunosuppression avoidance strategy. He has a friendly approach to medicine and strongly believes in shared decision making with patients and their families.

Updates on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infection by Dr Tristan Barber

About this event
Dr Barber is a consultant physician and healthcare services professional with expertise spanning HIV and sexual/reproductive health (genitourinary medicine). He is a national and international leader in the HIV field who drives clinical improvements whilst always championing patient centred and holistic care, collaborative and shared decision making and instilling a culture of exceptional treatment.
He is clinical lead for a bespoke service focused on HIV, frailty and ageing. Dr Barber is accustomed to gathering, disseminating and leveraging data to streamline and deliver improvements across HIV and sexual and reproductive health. He was awarded his MD by the University of Cambridge in 2019 for research in HIV-related neurocognitive impairment.
Dr Barber is currently chair of the Education and Scientific Subcommittee for the British HIV Association (BHIVA), as well as being associate editor for the journal ‘Sexually Transmitted Infections’ and editor for ‘HIV Research and Clinical Practice’.

Mr Rohit Jolly BSc MBBS FRCOphth is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with subspecialist interests in paediatric ophthalmology, adult strabismus and neuro-ophthalmology, adult cataract surgery and general ophthalmology. He is the clinical lead for Emergency Eye Care at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust where he holds a substantive NHS consultant post.
He has furthered his extensive experience by undertaking a fellowship at the Royal Free in paediatric ophthalmology, adult strabismus and cataract surgery, learning the modern techniques of squint surgery as well as its medical management. In addition to this he has a keen interest in acute ophthalmic care and has held the position of a consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the busiest dedicated ophthalmic eye casualty in Europe.

Palpitations and syncope in primary care by Dr Tomson

The talk will look at case scenarios to illustrate: - the possible differential diagnoses to consider, initial investigations, identifying higher risk features of atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, and syncope.
Dr J Tomson qualified as a physician in 1999 and completed specialist Cardiology training in the WM Deanery, UK (CCT) in 2015. He also undertook Cardiovascular research, trials, and epidemiology training at the University of Oxford where he completed his doctorate (MD). Dr Tomson’s specialist interests include cardiac rhythm management, cardiac device therapy (cardiac resynchronisation therapy, pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators), heart failure, cardiomyopathies, palpitations, and syncope.
He also has expertise in cardiovascular imaging, cardiovascular research including epidemiology and drug trials. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK (MRCP), and is a Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) by the IBHRE.
