Royal Free Hospital

The Private Patients Unit at the Royal Free Hospital was established in 1980. Based on the 12th floor of the hospital, the unit is part of the NHS and is wholly owned by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. We offer you access to some of London’s most experienced specialists, all of whom work as NHS consultants at the Royal Free, Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals. Find out how we’re investing in the NHS.

By public transport

We recommend you come by public transport whenever possible. You can use the TfL Journey Planner to find the best route.

Tube:

The nearest underground station to the Royal Free Hospital is Belsize Park station, on the Northern Line. The walk from Belsize Park station takes seven minutes, and is partly uphill.

Train:

The nearest overground station is Hampstead Heath on the Mildmay line. The walk from this station to the hospital takes five minutes and is partly uphill.

Bus:

There are lots of buses that pass by the Royal Free Hospital. Bus routes 1, 24, 46, 268, C11 and N5 all serve the hospital.

Driving and parking

We recommend you come by public transport whenever possible. You can use the TfL Journey Planner to find the best route.

Parking at the Royal Free Hospital and in the surrounding areas can be limited and there can be queues for the car park.

If you wish to drive to the Royal Free Hospital, we recommend you allow extra time before your appointment to locate suitable parking on site or to find alternative local parking if no spaces are available.

Parking

Limited paid-for patient parking is available on site, on a first come, first served basis.

The nearest public car park can be found at East Heath car park on East Heath Road. This is an approximate 10-minute walk from the hospital. It has limited space and owned by the City of London Corporation.

Disabled parking

Dedicated blue badge spaces are available near our main entrances.

Parking for blue badge holders is free for the duration of your stay in any space in our patient and visitor car parks.

Drop off zone

There is a free five-minute drop off zone located outside the main entrance of the hospital with a strict no waiting policy in force.

Reaching the Private Patients Unit on arrival

How to reach the 12^th Floor Private Patients Unit on arrival:

From the main entrance, walk along the main corridor of the hospital, past the main hall (Atrium) on your right and take the main lifts to the 12th floor. Our reception staff is immediately in front of you upon exiting the lift area, and our team will be ready to greet you and help you reach the area you need.

How to use the lifts:

Please ensure before entering any of the main lifts, to select the 12^th Floor on the display units in the area. The display will show you which lift (labelled A-F) to enter. Lifts will only go to the selected floors.

During busy periods, you may not be able to enter your assigned lift. If this happens, use the display to select the 12^th floor again, to be assigned a new lift to enter.
