Liver health screening

The Royal Free Private Patients Unit offer a general screening package of the liver. The package includes a full medical history and physical examination, blood tests, an ultrasound scan and a fibro scan.

You will meet with your consultant to have a full consultation followed by a verbal report, and subsequently a detailed medical report.

Tests included in the package:

• primary blood tests (full blood picture)
• detailed medical report
• blood pressure check
• ultrasound and fibro scan examination of the liver

Physical examinations included in the package:

• chest, heart and abdominal examination
• urine test

Tests and scans

The blood tests taken will detect abnormal liver function tests, as well as the presence of diabetes or hyperlipidaemia which may predispose to fatty liver disease, immunoglobulins and testing for hepatitis B and C. The ultrasound scan can detect most liver pathologies, and the fibro scan will indicate whether there is any significant scarring of the liver.

• lipids (including cholesterol and triglycerides)
• urea and electrolytes (kidney function)
• calcium and phosphate
• full blood count
• hepatitis B surface antigen
• hepatitis C antibody
• imunoglobulins
