Preparing for your admission

Whatever your length of stay, we strive to make it as comfortable as possible. Our consultants are supported by a multi-disciplinary team of clinical specialists, including therapists, dieticians, pharmacists and tissue viability with strong links to specialist services throughout the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. Our nursing staff are carefully selected and employed by the trust to work within the Royal Free London Private Patients Unit. When required, specialist nursing advice is available through the ward nursing team.

Undertaking your treatment as a private patient allows you access to all the facilities, latest treatments and technologies offered within the trust. You may therefore be treated in, or transferred to, another area of the hospital at some point during your stay to ensure you receive the best possible care. Examples include the imaging department, catheterisation laboratories, theatres and critical care. If you are transferred to another ward for continuous care your personal effects will be stored or you can arrange for your relatives to take them home.

The Private Patients Unit has access to all the therapy services – physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition and dietetics and speech and language therapy. If required, your consultant will refer you to the relevant discipline. We have dedicated physiotherapists who will see and assist you during your stay.CONSIDERING-TREATMENT

As the Private Patients Unit is on the 12th floor of the hospital, all the rooms have amazing views on to Hampstead Heath or London’s landmarks, as well as:

  • en-suite facilities
  • satellite television with remote control
  • telephone with direct dial numbers
  • nurse call facilities
  • a complimentary newspaper delivered daily as required

Four dedicated centrally-monitored high-dependency beds have been set aside in our dedicated 12th floor ward which has been newly refurbished to high standards.

The Private Patients Unit has its own dedicated kitchen which provides a five star room service. A key priority of the unit’s staff is to provide a caring, friendly and helpful service, with clear information and explanations.

Patients who require a closer level of monitoring will be moved to a dedicated room on ward 12 west and transferred from the monitored bed facility once his/her clinical condition improves.

All rooms are checked and clean before every patient admission and we ensure that all rooms and public areas are cleaned to the highest standard. Audits of cleanliness and infection control are regularly undertaken and rigorously monitored by senior clinical and facilities team in all clinical areas. Cleaning schedules and audit results are available on each ward for information.

Visiting times are unrestricted. We however ask all visitors to leave the hospital by 10pm for security reasons. Visiting with children is limited.
