In celebration of the National Eye Health Awareness week, we’ve invited Dr Nick Koutroumanos, Consultant Ophthalmologist from Royal Free Hospital, who helped us answer some of the most important questions on how critical it is to look after our eyes to prevent any issues in the future. Dry eye is a condition most common to people living in a city like London and during the pandemic. Dr Koutroumanos explained the role of eyelids in protecting our eyes and gave some practical tips to protect them.

Am I stressed? Exploring a new system that measure stress, sleep quality and physiological wellbeing

Prof Owen Epstein, a renowned and pioneering professor of gastroenterology at the Royal Free Hospital, introduced and explained the role of the vagus nerve, the information superhighway of the body, that monitors and maintains “inner balance”. He also outlined a new system called Bodyguard2 that measures stress, sleep quality and provides a physiological measurement of wellbeing. This innovation helps us understand our body’s stress level which, in turn, helps understand symptoms where “hardware” tests fail to explain ill-health. Prof Epstein also discusses treatment designed to restore physiological wellbeing.
