Gastroenterology is the study and treatment of diseases and disorders concerning the stomach or the intestines.

Such conditions may affect your oesophagus (swallowing tube), pancreas, stomach, small intestine and large intestine.

At the Royal Free London Private Patients Unit we offer a range of specialist outpatient gastroenterology services. Our consultants are highly trained in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of gastroenterology diseases using the most advanced equipment to date, therefore allowing us to tailor each service to our patients’ needs.

Treatments we offer include...

  • Minimally invasive gastroenterology (capsule endoscopy, breath testing for intolerances, heart rate variability to assess the brain-gut axis)
  • Colonoscopy
  • Upper GI endoscopy
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)

Consultations

For us, the consultation is a key part of the patient journey. We will advise on the most suitable investigative procedures for you and aim to provide tailored treatment plans that best suit your individual needs. We are committed to ensuring all patients feel fully informed about what a procedure entails and any associated risks, and supporting you in making the right decision for you.

Aftercare

Many of our gastroenterology services don’t require you to stay in hospital, but if you do need to stay overnight, our dedicated aftercare team will ensure your needs and comfort are well taken care of, and that you are fully equipped with all the advice and information you need when you go home. Depending on the procedure you’ve had, follow-ups may also be included as standard and should you need any additional advice, our nurses are only a phone call away.
