rhinoplasty-for-men

Rhinoplasty for men also known as ‘nose surgery’ is a procedure performed with the aim of improving and refining the bridge, tip or profile of the nose, it can also relieve breathing difficulties. Rhinoplasty allows for a more natural look to your nose if you feel it is too wide or narrow and needs improving.

A patient may opt for Rhinoplasty surgery for many reasons in general whether it be for improving damages to the nose or just your own personal cosmetic reasons. At the Royal Free PPU we have a team of dedicated professionals with many years experience that can advise you on the procedure through the whole process, tailoring each service to a patients needs.

THE PROCEDURE

The aim of a rhinoplasty is always the same: a natural result that is aesthetically pleasing and in proportion to the rest of the face. The procedure takes an hour or two and is performed under general anaesthetic. Your surgeon will separate the skin of the nose from its framework of bone and cartilage, which is then reshaped.

The skin is then redraped over the new framework and splints inserted, which remain in place for a few days. You will then return to a ward and stay overnight in hospital. Any bruising and swelling should subside after a couple of weeks.

AFTERCARE

After your procedure your nose may feel blocked for a while, with some swelling and bruising around the eyes. You are advised to sleep with your head up in a position and use ice to assist in reducing the swelling. You should be able to return back to your normal routine after 2 weeks of surgery but it is advised any strenuous exercise should be kept to a minimum for at least 3 weeks after your operation and avoid playing contact sports for 6 weeks however.

You may find a splint has been placed on your nose for support but this will be removed when you leave the hospital. It may also be advised to not wear glasses however your consultant will advise on the best course of action for recovery after your procedure.
